Upon returning from the Wizard of Wines winery, the party found Ismark dying near his sister Ireena, who was in the clutches of Strahd himself. A battle ensued, and while it looked like Ireena would escape the vampire for a time, Strahd charmed her into joining him on his nightmare Beucephalus and flying off to Castle Ravenloft.
Sorely unprepared to fight the devil in his own home, the party instead decided to try to aid the Martikovs at the winery. They were missing three magical gems which allowed their plants to grow in the cursed valley of Barovia. One is gone without a trace, but the other two are at Yester Hill in the possession of the druids and the ruins of Berez in the possession of a hag.
Setting their sights on Yester Hill, the party journeyed south to confront the druids and retrieve the gem. They were ambushed, however, and though they did some damage to a large statue of Strahd that was apparently the center of some kind of druidic ritual occuring at that site, they were forced to retreat from a combined druid/barbarian onslaught.
Next, the party decided to seek out some of the resources alluded to by Madam Eva's card reading and journeyed to Krezk. Once there, they went to Saint Markovia Abbey and encountered the mongrelfolk that lived there. These part-beast, part-human mutts were created by the Abbot and now live with him at the abbey.
Just as all seemed to tend toward darkness, a ray of light appeared in the form of Ezmerelda d'Avenir, a Vistana whom Madam Eva indicated was to be their greatest ally in the fight against Strahd. Nearby, they suspect the presence of another tool they can use toward their goal of Strahd's destruction.
Will they be able to obtain this item and the others from the card reading and save Ireena from her terrible fate?
